Welcome!

This site is an ongoing effort to bring together and organize samples of the many media I routinely use in my work…photography, video, multimedia, audio/radio, film, scriptwriting, etc.

I suppose I am in a unique position. I’ve been taking photographs and producing films, video and multimedia presentations professionally for more than 40 years and my background in radio, music and audio production goes back even further than that. Throughout all of this, my primary interest has always been documentary storytelling. I love stories of all kinds; stories about places, about events and of course, about people and their accomplishments, experiences and circumstance. As a result, this interest and varied background, both inspires and directs my approach to crafting what I hope is interesting and informative imagery and media.

The images here have come from several of the multimedia stories and articles I’ve produced or contributed to, over the past few years. As the site develops, I will be adding complete multimedia clips, video pieces, syndicated audio (radio) productions as well as a library of my analog imagery and documentary production pieces from decades past.

Torrey Pines Paragliding

The high cliffs of Torry Pines, outside of San Diego, have long been a mecca for hang gliding and soaring. Now, it’s colorful paragliders that dominate the skies there. I was on-site in November of 2012 to document the action and celebrate the first flight of a somewhat reluctant, but later joyful, passenger.

Magdalena and the VLA

A trip to the Very Large Array (VLA) produced some iconic images of the massive radio telescopes and was reminiscent of a photo assignment there for NASA some 25 years ago. On the way, a lunch stop and exploration in Magdalena revealed a park filled with interesting sculptures.

San Diego Balboa Park and Estudillo House: Old Town

While in San Diego recently, I produced several multimedia stories. Some of the best imagery came from the botanical gardens of Balboa Park and the Estudillo House Museum of Old Town. Here’s a sample. (Click on thumbnails for larger.)

These images were taken on a rainy San Diego afternoon, for a multimedia piece about the Estudillo House Museum. I think the somber ambience of the historical surroundings matched well with the overcast skies.

Washington State Woodcarver

Josh Blewett is a talented wood carver and sculptor who chooses to work in fallen wood. His tools are a chainsaw, grinder and of course, his faithful dog. These are some images from that story. (Click on thumbnails for larger.)
